Christmas // How I decorated our home in 2018
The great thing about setting up an Instagram account dedicated to photos of my home is that as the months and years go by I can see how our home was decorated and how my style has evolved. Compared to previous years, the decorations have been much more low key this year. With going on holiday in the middle of December and then being at home in Yorkshire for Christmas week, it seemed a bit pointless putting all the decorations up.
Living in a small space means that the place can begin to feel cluttered and crowded very quickly as you start to add the decorations but this year the flat has felt much less cluttered than previous years so I think we’ll be keeping the decorations more simple going forward.
You can see how I went all out on decorations last year (including *that* Cox and Cox tree) in this post here.
I kept the lounge area very simple with a small faux tree that I bought in The White Company sale last year. I would have loved to have put our Cox and Cox tree up again but ran out of space having grown the gallery wall since last year!
The Dining Area
I went to Your London Florist with the intention of buying a simple minus branch like I had seen at The Occasional Home Store a few weeks before but changed my mind when i saw the big bundles of fir tree off cuts they were selling for under £15. I created a natural bushy garland for the top of the bookcases by piling the off cuts on and then layering in eucalyptus sprigs, dried thistles and pine cones. We added lights and candles for some glow.
I went a bit over the top with decorations in the bedroom last year so kept it simple this time. I made a small garland for above the pictures using the fir tree cuttings from Your London Florist and wrapped one of the faux eucalyptus garlands from Of Special Interest Interiors around the bed headboard.
One day (when Brexit is finally done with) we’ll have a house with a fire and mantlepiece to decorate but until then I’ll still enjoy making our little flat feel nice and festive!
